Adding to the Mosaic of Life
The subject of scintillation would not be complete if we did not cover the first of the GIA definitions stating, "Sparkle: The appearance, or extent, of spots of light seen in a polished diamond when it is viewed face-up that flash as the diamond, observer, or light source moves.
When I think of "spots of light" I can't help but think of the appearance of diamond in the direct light condition (emphasizing fire/dispersion) although this definition covers many lighting conditions. As you view diamonds in various lighting conditions, each environment has a different view to offer, displaying the panorama of beauty available when you purchase a stone of ideal cut quality. While there are literally hundreds of different viewing environments to observe your potential diamond under these 4 environments cover a good variety which many are comprised of. The general rule of thumb regarding scintillation to bear in mind as we close this section is...
- The brighter the light source, the more intense the reflections will be. Adversely, the weaker the light sources the less intense the reflections will be.

Which of these 2 diamonds appeal to your eyes most? Regardless of rarity between the 2 cuts there is no correct answer except for the one you provide.
Our goal is help you determine what it is you like about a diamond and help you meet that need.
Now that you have completed our new cut tutorial and have familiarized yourself with all of the optical metrics taken into account for cut grading from both GIA and AGS systems the next logical step, if you are considering a diamond purchase is "determining your own personal preference™" and we are proud to be the first and only website to bring you into the lighting environments that matter most to you (and more importantly your fiancé) and showing you how various diamonds appear in those conditions. If you're ready to get started so are we. :) |
